Quantities guide for specific jobs
Plastering – 1sqm x 10mm thick - 26kg of lime mortar.
Building a wall (double layer of stone) 1sq m – 200kg of lime mortar
Parging – 1sq m – approx 22kg of lime mortar (dependant on slate & lath)
Pointing 1sq m – approx 26kg of lime mortar (dependant on stone size & pointing depth)
Limewash – 19sq m – 5 litres of limewash applied with a 100mm brush
The limewash is made from matured slaked lime putty. The putty should be diluted with clean water until it has the consistency of thin cream, walls should have at least 5 coats of limewash. Limewash should be allowed 24 hours to dry before the next application. Dampen the wall before the next application. For external walls, linseed oil should be added to the limewash to improve weathering characteristics.
